Style’s Details | Drawstring Bags

Lo sappiamo tutte: i dettagli fanno la differenza. In fatto di stile, un accessorio, un particolare o un modo diverso di indossare un capo possono farci notare (in positivo).

[ We all know: details make the difference. In style matter, an accessory, a detail or a different way to wear a piece of clothing  make us noticed (positively noticed!). ]

Oggi vi propongo una piccola rassegna dedicata ad un accessorio che è prepotentemente tornato alla ribalta della moda: la borsa a sacchetto.

La borse sono un’acquisizione piuttosto recente nel guardaroba delle donne. Le prime risalgono alla fine dell’800, epoca in cui le donne cominciarono a viaggiare maggiormente e a portare con sé tutto il loro “armamentario” (né più né meno di oggi).  Le prime borse a sacchetto nascono negli anni ‘30 per merito di Elsa Schiaparelli e Gucci. Sono realizzate in pellami pregiati e rappresenteranno, nei decenni a venire, un modello di borsa sul quale ogni stilista che si rispetti si cimenterà. C’è stato un periodo, poi, negli anni ‘80 in cui le mitiche borse con il laccetto erano ovunque e proposte in ogni forma: sacca, zainetto, borsa a spalla e adesso sono ritornate in grande stile…

[ Today I will bring to you a little review totally dedicated to an accessory which  has made a comeback: the drawstring bag.

Purses are a recent entry in women’s closet. First come from XIX century, when women start travelling frequently and needed to bring all their “paraphernalia” with them (like nowadays). First drawstring bags were born in thirties by Elsa Schiaparelli and Gucci. They were made of valuable leathers and they will represent, in the next decades, a bag pattern on which any fashion designer will proof his/her capability. There was a time, in eighties, when drawstring bags were everywhere and sold in any shape: buckets, backpacks, shoulder bags and now they are back… ]

D.I.Y. | A summer clutch / Una pochette estiva

L’estate non è più un lontano miraggio. Finalmente sta per arrivare ed è divertente scovare qualcosa di nuovo da indossare. Quest’anno impazzano le pochette, clutch o borse a mano che dir si vogliano. Alcune hanno prezzi proibitivi e, francamente, spendere cifre da capogiro per una borsa (diciamocelo) non comodissima sarebbe pura follia. E allora? Facciamocela da noi!

[ Summer is coming and it's funny looking for something new to wear. This is the year of clutches. Some of them cost a lot and, sincerely, to spend a fortune in a bag (let's confess) not really comfortable would be pure madness. So what? Let's make it by ourselves! ]

Io ho utilizzato una tovaglietta americana per la prima colazione in foglie di banano, due scampolini di tessuto di cotone da utilizzare come “soffietti” laterali, una vecchia cintura, colla a caldo e filo di cotone mouliné in tinta. Cominciamo?

[ I used a place mat made of palm leaves, two little fabric scraps as side strips, an old belt, a glue gun and mouliné cotton thread. Do we start? ]

Le misure dell’americana sono orientativamente di cm.50 x cm.30. Tagliate con la forbice a zig zag (o, se non l’avete, passate una cucitura a punto zig zag lungo tutto il perimetro) due rettangolini con il fondo arrotondato (come in foto) delle seguenti dimensioni: circa L. cm.6 x H. cm.18 e cuciteli partendo a 10 cm. dal bordo superiore (che una volta piegato farà da patta di chiusura alla borsa) della tovaglietta. Per la cucitura dei soffietti alla tovaglietta, ho utilizzato del cotone mouliné a tre capi (bello resistente) e il punto filza.

[ Place mat's measures are approximately in. 19,69 x in.11,81. Cut out with pinking shears (or, if you don’t own them, sewing with zig zag all the perimeter) two rectangles (with a rounded bottom) that have the following measures: L. in.2,36 x H. in.7,09 and start sewing them to the place mat after having left approximately in.3,94  from the border (once you fold it, it will be the flap of your bag). I used a three-ply mouliné cotton thread (really strong) and straight stitch. ]

Subito dopo ho incollato, con la pistola a caldo, la mia cinturina al centro della borsa. [ Then I glued my belt in the middle of the bag. ]

 La pochette è stata pronta in un attimo! Vi piace? [ The clutch was ready in a few minutes! ]

Io la trovo capiente, adatta a dare un tocco “etnico” o sportivo a qualsiasi outfit e utilizzabile anche nelle occasioni più casual… Per esempio con un total look in denim (come nelle foto più in basso). 

 [ I think it’s capable, great to add an ethnic or casual touch to any outfit and useful in most occasions… For example, with a denim total look (as you can see in the pictures below). ]
